Barb Byrum is very active in her community, the same community that she was raised.
Since coming to the House, Barb has been a tireless advocate for good-paying jobs, strengthening educational opportunities to create a highly-skilled workforce in Michigan, and providing quality health care.
Barb has owned and operated Byrum Hardware in Charlotte for nearly ten years. She is also a past president of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. Barb is the former Chair of the Ingham County Economic Development Board and served as Secretary of the Ingham County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. Barb is a past board member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and a previous vestry member of
St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Mason, helping the church with numerous projects.
A strong supporter of public education, Barb attended Leslie and Holt public schools. While in high school, Barb attended classes at Lansing Community College. Upon her graduation from high school, she transferred to Michigan State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management. Later she received a law degree from MSU College of Law. Barb is a past recipient of a scholarship from the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.
Barb is serving as chair of the Central Michigan Baby Walk for the third year, which combats Michigan's high infant mortality rate and spreads the message about safe sleep practices for infants. Barb is also a supporter of the InfantSEE program, which is available to our local infants and their families. The Michigan Optometric Association's InfantSEE® program provides free vision screening to infants between 6 and 12 months of age, regardless of a family's ability to pay.
Barb is serving her second term as State Representative of the 67th District. She is the Chair of the Insurance Committee and a member of the House Committees on Commerce, Education, and Health Policy. Barb was also named by the Speaker of the House to serve as Caucus Chair.
Barb is married to Brad Delaney, an Ingham County Deputy Sheriff. She and her husband continue to live in Onondaga with their son, Blake.
