LANSING – State Representative Barb Byrum (D-Onondaga) today praised and thanked Mike's Firehouse Grill in Mason for catering her "First Bill Luncheon," a tradition in the Michigan House of Representatives that calls for a lawmaker to host a luncheon after his or her first bill passes the House.
"My colleagues and I were extremely impressed by the fantastic meal provided by my favorite restaurant in Mason, Mike's Firehouse Grill," Byrum said. "Passing my first bill in the House was a great honor, and it was especially nice to top it off with a meal from one of the many fine restaurants in my district."
Byrum's first bill to pass the House requires Register of Deeds to remove Social Security Numbers from deeds and other documents. Byrum added that this legislation is a result of discovering that her mother's Social Security number, displayed on the deed to her home, was available on the Internet. Byrum's mother, Dianne Byrum, is the former State Representative for the 67th House District. .
"It was a thrill for me to share the honor of passing my first bill by showcasing my favorite restaurant," Byrum said.
