LANSING -- State Representative Barb Byrum (D-Onondaga) and husband Brad Delaney welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world on Thursday, Dec. 6.
Blake Bradley Delaney was born at Ingham Regional Medical Center (IRMC) at 8 a.m. Blake weighs 8 pounds and 3 ounces and is 21 inches long, his proud parents report.
"Blake, Brad and I deeply appreciate the support of our family and friends as well as all the kind phone calls, cards and comments we have received from the residents of Ingham County during this very exciting time for our family," Byrum said. "I would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, staff and medical students at IRMC who have provided excellent care to me and my family during this important time."
Since coming to the Legislature, Byrum has made improving the welfare of Michigan's children one of her top priorities. The House has passed her plan requiring drivers to securely place children under the age of 4 in child-restraint safety seats in the rear seat of a vehicle, and she has been a tireless advocate of a plan that would limit the amount of lead that can be applied to children's toys sold in Michigan.
"I have always fought to make our community a great place to live, work and raise a family, and the birth of my first child only strengthens my commitment," Byrum said. "I look forward to being the best child advocate I can be, both at home and at the Capitol."
